IPOB Sends Message To Igbos Planning To Return Home For Christmas

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), through its Directorate of State (DOS), has urged Ndigbo and Biafrans to return to their homeland for the Christmas season, assuring that operatives of its Eastern Security Network (ESN) will ensure safety and maintain a peaceful environment throughout the festivities.

In a statement signed by Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, the group reiterated its dedication to addressing insecurity in the South East region, emphasizing its role in promoting peace and development.

IPOB described Alaigbo as a historically peaceful region and urged all Igbos to contribute to preserving this harmony, which is crucial for the region’s economic progress.

The group stressed that peace and security in the South East should match the standards of other regions in Nigeria, accusing the Nigerian government of worsening insecurity through militarization and alleged oppression.

“We need peace to thrive as a key economic hub in Africa. Every Igbo man and woman must work towards peace and security in Alaigbo,” the statement read.

The group also reaffirmed its commitment to securing investments in the South East and encouraged Igbos to return their investments home to boost development and create job opportunities for the region’s youth.

IPOB warned criminals to stay away from the South East, particularly during the Christmas period, as ESN operatives and IPOB volunteers are working to make the region hostile to criminal activities.

The group also accused the Nigerian government and its security forces of fostering insecurity as an excuse to maintain militarization in the region.

“We demand the dismantling of all unlawful military, police, and other checkpoints in the South East. These checkpoints are sources of extortion, intimidation, and harassment of travelers,” the statement asserted.

IPOB highlighted the role of ESN operatives in protecting Biafran forests and rural areas, preventing criminal groups from using them as hideouts.

The group encouraged residents to reach out to ESN operatives through the published security contact numbers when necessary.

The statement concluded with a call to all stakeholders to prioritize peace and development in Alaigbo, underscoring IPOB’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and investments in the region.

As the festive season draws near, IPOB’s assurance of security by its ESN operatives aims to encourage more Biafrans to reconnect with their homeland and contribute to the region’s growth and stability.
