The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 27 senior police officers, including 11 Commissioners of Police who are now promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG), and 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police who have been elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police.
PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani reported that the Commission’s Chairman, Hashimu Argungu, announced that, moving forward, both written and oral examinations will be mandatory for promotions across all ranks within the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly promoted officers underwent both written and oral exams on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters.

The PSC Chairman emphasized that officers of the Nigeria Police Force should consistently work on enhancing their skills and familiarize themselves with global best practices, particularly in technological proficiency.
The 11 Commissioners of Police promoted to Assistant Inspectors General of Police include: Umar Shehu Nadada, Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State; Mustapha Mohammed Bala, Commissioner of Police in Rivers State; Abayomi Peter Oladipo, Commissioner of Police in Ondo State; Taiwo Olatunde Adeleke, Commissioner of Police, SWAT, FCID, Abuja; Ibrahim Abdullahi, mni, Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State; and Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, Commissioner of Police, PPP, DLS, Force Headquarters Abuja.
Other promoted Commissioners of Police are: Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State; Zubairu Abubakar, Commissioner of Police, Police Staff College, Jos; Fom Pam Joseph, Commissioner of Police, Homicide, FCID Abuja; Emuobo Fred Ekokotu, Commissioner of Police, Admin, Airwing Abuja; and Garba Musa Yusuf, Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos.

The 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police promoted to the rank of Commissioners include: Kayode Ojapinwa, DC, SCID, FCT; Emmanuel Ighodalo, DC, ZCID, Zone 8, Lokoja; Bose Funmi Akinyemi, DC SEB, FCID Annex, Lagos; Barayimil Ahmadu Samaila, DC, DFA, Kogi State; Martin Nwogoh, fdc, DC, DFA, Zone 2, Lagos; Shetima Jauro Mohammed, DC SCID, Nasarawa State; Ibrahim Gotan, DC, DFA Zone 2, Bauchi; Rabiu Mohammed, DC Ops, Zone 3, Yola; Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola, DC, SCID, Ekiti State; and Adepoju Olugbenga Adewale, DC Ops, Rivers State.

DIG Taiwo Lakanu, fdc, Honourable Commissioner in the Commission and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Police Promotions, conducted a thorough oral interview with the officers. He advised them to focus on the responsibilities of their new positions and commit to giving their best in service. DIG Lakanu reiterated that the Commission would continue to ensure that promotions are timely and based on merit.
