Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged President Bola Tinubu to rein in “intransigent ministers” in his cabinet who refuse to respond to invitations from the National Assembly.

“Those who disregard invitation by the National Assembly are not democratic and therefore have no place in your government,” Akpabio told Tinubu before a full house of members of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

He emphasized the importance of ministers and Presidential appointees responding promptly to the National Assembly’s request for necessary explanations regarding their performance.

The Senate President noted that legislators possess the constitutional authority to take action if these individuals fail to appear before both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Tinubu was joined at the budget presentation by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, along with other senior government officials.

Originally scheduled for Tuesday, the presentation was postponed to Wednesday following a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
