The attack, carried out by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), occurred last Saturday in the early hours.
The assailants, riding trucks and motorcycles, targeted the base in the Sabon Gari area of Damboa.
They set fire to the base and military vehicles, according to military sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
In response, fighter jets from Maiduguri, located 100 kilometers (62 miles) away, were deployed and struck the attackers as they retreated.

In a statement released by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed his deep sympathy to the military leadership following the tragic loss of six brave soldiers during the dawn assault on January 4.
