Appeal Court Delivers Ruling On Julius Abure’s Status As National Chairman Of Labour Party

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reaffirmed that Julius Abure remains the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Hamma Barka, a three-member panel of the appellate court upheld its November 13, 2024 ruling, which recognizes Abure as the national chairman, stating that this decision has not been overturned by any other court.

Justice Barka made this declaration while delivering judgments in two separate appeals filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the caretaker committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The appellate court, in both appeals, emphasized that it did not address the issue of the Labour Party’s leadership, as such matters are non-justiciable.

The court further ruled that any actions taken outside the scope of jurisdiction are null and void. Therefore, the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on October 8, 2024, by Justice Emeka Nwite was rendered ineffective, as it was issued without jurisdiction.

In striking out the suit for lack of jurisdiction, the appellate court reaffirmed its November 13, 2024 decision, declaring that “Abure remains the National Chairman of the Labour Party.”
