Meta Offers Creators $5,000 To Join Facebook And Instagram Amid TikTok Uncertainty

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is offering popular U.S. creators from competitors like TikTok the chance to earn up to $5,000 in bonuses for producing content on its platforms.

This offer comes as TikTok briefly went offline in the U.S. on Sunday ahead of a potential ban under President Joe Biden, but the ban was delayed after Donald Trump, Biden’s predecessor, extended the suspension for 75 days.

The uncertainty surrounding the ban has left many TikTok creators, who rely on the platform for their income, in a state of limbo.

In response to this, Meta has launched its “Breakthrough Bonus Program,” which offers creators up to $5,000 in bonuses within their first 90 days of joining.

To qualify, creators must post at least 20 Reels on Facebook and 10 Reels on Instagram within 30 days of accepting the program’s terms and conditions.

The content must be original, created by a U.S. creator who is 18 or older, and the creator must have an existing following on another social media platform, though Meta does not specifically mention TikTok.

Meta will assess the bonuses based on each creator’s “social presence,” and the program is only available to those who are new to both Facebook and Instagram.

While TikTok briefly faced a shutdown on Sunday, the app’s U.S. operations have been given a temporary reprieve, as its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, has 75 days to negotiate with U.S. officials to address national security concerns.

TikTok has stated its intent to work with President Trump on finding a long-term solution, while rumors swirl that wealthy U.S. investors might purchase the app from ByteDance.

A number of prominent figures from both the tech industry and the U.S. government have been suggested as potential new owners of TikTok.
