A message circulating on Facebook in Nigeria begins: “Breaking News: Trump Orders FBI to Arrest ‘Wike’ on Sight in Any European Country, Including France, Over Alleged Crimes Committed During the 2023 Election.”

Donald Trump was sworn in as President of the United States on January 20, 2025, and has since signed several executive orders.

Nyesom Wike, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State in southeastern Nigeria, was appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in August 2023.

Bola Tinubu won Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, with some Nigerians accusing Wike of aiding Tinubu’s victory, while opposition parties contested the election results in court.

The claim that Trump has ordered the FBI to arrest Wike can also be found here and here.

But is it true? We checked.

No such order from Trump

We searched for the order in the US Federal Register, which records the president’s signed orders, but found no such entry. This raises a significant red flag.

Additionally, there were no media reports confirming that Trump issued such an order.

If it were true, it would have made both local and international news.

There is also no mention of the order on Trump’s personal X account or his official presidency account.

A search of the FCT website also yielded no evidence to back the claim.

In conclusion, there is no evidence to support the assertion that Trump has ordered the FBI to arrest Wike.

The claim is false.
