The Senate has officially confirmed the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after his recent resignation from the opposition party.
Nwoko cited increasing instability and internal conflicts within the PDP, which he said posed a threat to his political future, leading him to switch parties.

The announcement was met with loud applause as he was led to the majority side of the Upper Chamber.
Along with his defection, Nwoko, in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, called for the establishment of an ad hoc committee to investigate the ongoing crisis within the PDP.
He stressed the importance of a strong opposition to maintain Nigeria’s political balance and ensure a fair democratic system.
