PDP Loses Another Rep Member To APC

Amos Gwamna Magaji, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Magaji, who represents the Jaba/Zango Kataf Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, cited the unresolved crises within the PDP at both the national and local levels as the reason for his decision to leave the party.

A two-time member of the House, Magaji is currently the Chairman of the House Committee on Health Care Services and the Deputy Chairman of the House Special Ad-hoc Committee on the Restructuring of Government Agencies and Commissions, tasked with reviewing the recommendations of the Stephen Oronsaye report.

He has also served on several other committees, including Defense, Reformation Institutions, Rules & Business, Christian Pilgrimage, Police Affairs, F.C.T Area Councils, and the Committee on Constitution Review, representing Kaduna state.

Magaji becomes the third PDP member to defect to the APC since the 10th Assembly began, following Chris Nkwonta and Eriatheke Ibori-Suenu.

In response to Magaji’s defection, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda urged the Speaker to declare the Kaduna lawmaker’s seat vacant.

Citing section 68(1g) of the Constitution, Chinda argued that while members are allowed to leave the party they were elected under, the law outlines the consequences, including the loss of their seat.

He stated that Magaji had not followed the legal procedures and should, therefore, forfeit his seat.
