INEC Releases Election Notice

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the “Notice of Polls” for the upcoming Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to the notice, the elections will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, beginning at 8:30 am across all polling units in the FCT.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, INEC stressed that only registered voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) whose names appear on the voter register will be permitted to cast their ballots.

The commission also confirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used for voter authentication during the election.

Voters are therefore urged to ensure they have their PVCs, as those without them will not be allowed to participate.

The elections will be conducted across all six Area Councils in the FCT.

INEC’s statement read:

“This is to inform the general public that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct elections in the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as follows:

**Date:** Saturday, February 21, 2026
**Time:** 8:30 am
**Venue:** All Polling Units in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Eligible voters will only be allowed to vote at the polling units where they are registered. Only individuals whose names appear on the voter register and possess valid PVCs will be permitted to participate.

The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be deployed for the election. **No PVC, no voting.**”
