Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has filed separate lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, accusing her of defamation and violating her fundamental human rights.

The legal action follows Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent claim that her troubles in the Senate began after she rejected alleged sexual advances from the Senate President.

In the first case on fundamental rights violation (Suit No: CV/814/25), Mrs. Akpabio alleged that the senator’s statements were false and scandalous, causing emotional distress to her and her children, and putting them in fear for their safety.

She urged the court to declare the statements a violation of her right to dignity under the Constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

Mrs. Akpabio is seeking ₦250 billion in compensation and a permanent injunction preventing Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further allegations.

In a separate defamation suit (Suit No: CV/816/25), she challenged Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims that her husband made inappropriate advances towards her, describing them as false, malicious, and damaging to her family’s reputation.

As part of her demands, she requested the court to order Akpoti-Uduaghan to issue a public apology in *The Guardian* and *ThisDay* newspapers and to pay ₦1 billion in damages.

“The allegations have caused untold pain and emotional trauma to me and my family,” Mrs. Akpabio stated in the suit.

A hearing date for both cases has yet to be set.

The dispute between the two lawmakers began when Akpoti-Uduaghan discovered her Senate seating position had been changed without prior notice. She protested the decision, causing a brief disruption during a plenary session.

The Senate later referred the matter to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, led by Senator Neda Imaseun of Edo South, for investigation, with a two-week deadline to submit its report.

In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan filed a ₦100 billion defamation lawsuit against Akpabio and his senior legislative aide, Mfon Patrick.

Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, cited a Facebook post by Patrick titled *”Is Local Content Committee of the Senate Natasha’s Birthright?”* The post accused the senator of believing that being in the Senate was only about wearing makeup and transparent outfits.

Giwa argued that the statement was defamatory, portraying his client in a negative light among her colleagues and the public.

The controversy escalated on Friday when Akpoti-Uduaghan appeared on *Arise Television’s Morning Show* and accused Akpabio of sexual harassment. She claimed some colleagues had warned her to accept the seat change as part of a larger plot against her.

Mrs. Akpabio, however, dismissed the allegations as baseless, insisting, “My husband is a disciplined man who respects women.”
