Real Reason Supreme Court Sacked Rivers Local Government Chairmen

The Supreme Court has nullified the local government election held on October 5, 2024, by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Jamilu Tukur ruled that the election was invalid due to significant violations of the Electoral Act.

Justice Tukur stated that the actions of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission were rendered void as they failed to adhere to the Electoral Act and its guidelines, particularly by continuing voter registration even after setting an election date.

The court further held that the processes leading to the election were improperly conducted, violating Section 150 of the Electoral Act.
