Dennis Chinwendu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Isiala Ngwa South in the Abia State House of Assembly, along with his supporters, has defected to the Labour Party (LP).
During the reception in Umuoba, Isialangwa South local government area, the state governor, Alex Otti, welcomed them, describing the LP as an inclusive platform that is open to all Nigerians and dedicated to good governance.
“Honourable Chinwendu, we are pleased to have you join our party, and we appreciate you bringing such a large group of supporters, including leaders, with you,” Otti said. “In the Labour Party, we don’t discriminate. Whether you join today or years ago, you will be treated equally.”

Otti expressed his happiness in receiving Chinwendu and called on the LP chairman to officially hand over the party’s flag to him.
He assured the new members of full integration and equal treatment within the party, citing his own political journey as an example of the LP’s fairness.
Earlier, Chinwendu explained that he was drawn to the LP due to Otti’s impressive governance and transformation agenda, which has positively impacted the state in less than two years.
Chinwendu, representing Otti’s state constituency, expressed confidence that the people are ready to support the governor’s efforts in 2027.
The event also saw speeches from Darlington Nwokocha, the former representative for Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South federal constituency, and his successor, Ginger Onwusoibe.
One of the key moments was the handing over of the LP flag to Chinwendu and his supporters by the LP chairman of the area, Smart Ogbonna.
