The disciplinary committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tom Ikimi, has recommended the expulsion of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s embattled national secretary.
A letter signed by Ikimi and dated March 10, 2025, was delivered to the office of the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, on March 12.
The letter revealed that Anyanwu failed to appear before the committee to defend himself against the accusations made by the PDP Young Generation Caucus, despite being given the opportunity.
The petitioners accused Anyanwu of engaging in activities that violated the PDP Constitution, specifically Article 58 (1)(f), by participating in actions against the party.
They also accused him of conducting himself in a manner likely to disrupt the peaceful, lawful, and efficient operations of the party, in violation of Article 58(1)(h).
This included inviting security forces, thugs, and others to interfere with the party’s business at its headquarters on January 29 and February 1, 2025.
Following the committee’s recommendation, the final decision will be made by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

In February, the committee had invited former Benue State governor Samuel Ortom, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and others to appear before them, after reviewing five petitions.
It said, “following a detailed review of the petitions noted that the first set of petitions was against some key members of the National Working Committee (NWC)”.
“The Committee came to the conclusion that in order not to jeopardize the ongoing reconciliatory efforts of the Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees, took a decision to step down those three (3) of the petitions against the top NWC members,” the chairman of the PDP committee Tom Ikimi said in a statement issued after the meeting.
“The second set of petitions which were set down for enquiry are those against former Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom and 10 others and the petition against Distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
“Accordingly, the National Disciplinary Committee resolved to invite the affected persons to appear before the Committee on Wednesday, 12th February 2025 at the Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.”
Senator Anyanwu has also been involved in a dispute with Sunday Ude-Okoye over the position of the party’s National Secretary.
The High Court and Court of Appeal rulings on the matter were in favor of Ude-Okoye, prompting Anyanwu to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.
On Monday, the Supreme Court reserved its judgment on Anyanwu’s appeal against his removal from office.
In his appeal, Anyanwu is seeking to overturn the Court of Appeal’s decision in Enugu, which upheld the Federal High Court ruling that dismissed him as the party’s National Secretary.
Through his lawyer, Ken Njemanze (SAN), Anyanwu filed a ten-point appeal, urging the Supreme Court to allow the appeal and reverse the lower courts’ rulings.
