Another Explosion Rocks Oil Facility In Rivers

Less than 24 hours after an explosion struck the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, another blast has occurred at an oil facility in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.

The latest explosion happened on Tuesday morning at a manifold connecting the federal pipeline in Okwawriwa, sending massive flames into the air.

Eyewitnesses reported that the facility transports petroleum products from Seplat, Agip, and Shell, serving Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA and parts of Imo State, before reaching Brass in Bayelsa State.

Fortunately, its remote location reduced the risk of casualties.

This incident follows a similar explosion at the Trans-Niger Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), which carries crude oil to Bonny Terminal.

The initial explosion in Bodo, Gokana LGA, is already under police investigation.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals for questioning in connection with the Trans-Niger Pipeline explosion.

Although the causes of the blasts remain unknown, authorities are actively investigating the incidents.

As concerns grow over the potential impact on the oil and gas sector, as well as the environment and local communities, stakeholders are urging swift intervention to prevent further occurrences.

The timing and frequency of these explosions have sparked suspicions of sabotage, particularly against the backdrop of the ongoing political climate in the state.

Many are calling for a thorough investigation to uncover the root cause.
