Supreme Court Delivers Ruling On Judgement Sacking Anyanwu As PDP National Secretary

The Supreme Court has overturned the decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court that had removed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

A five-member panel of the Supreme Court ruled that disputes over the PDP’s National Secretary fall under the party’s internal affairs, which are not subject to judicial review.

Justice Jamilu Tukur, delivering the lead judgment, nullified the trial court’s October 2024 ruling and the Court of Appeal’s majority decision from December, which had upheld Anyanwu’s removal.

The Supreme Court upheld the minority judgment of the Court of Appeal, delivered by Justice Ekanem, which had voided the trial court’s decision due to lack of jurisdiction.

Additionally, the Supreme Court determined that the plaintiff, Aniagu Emmanuel, who initiated the lawsuit, lacked the legal standing to do so, as he failed to demonstrate how he was personally affected by the PDP National Secretary’s position.
