Shekarau Reveals What Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai’s Coalition Failed To Do

Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has downplayed the potential of a coalition to remove President Bola Tinubu and the APC from power in 2027.

Shekarau characterized the emerging alliance among opposition figures as a gathering of individuals with presidential or vice-presidential aspirations, rather than a genuine political coalition.

His statement came two days after figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai announced the formation of a Coalition of Opposition Political Parties with the goal of unseating President Tinubu in 2027.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Dr. Sule Yau, Shekarau argued that the individuals involved have not officially consulted their respective party leadership.

He also suggested that the presence of prominent individuals in an alliance does not guarantee a unified political front.

“The coalition of opposition figures is a good development, as seen in their recent meeting under what they call an opposition alliance. However, none of the key figures involved represents their party leadership,” Shekarau noted.

He pointed out that only registered political parties can legally form a merger, clarifying that the recent alliance remains an informal gathering and not a legally recognized coalition.
