Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, distributed 10,000 bags of rice (25kg each) to religious leaders and Muslim groups in the FCT on Monday as a Ramadan gift.
Wike, through his representative, Chief of Staff Chidi Amadi, explained in Gwagwalada that this distribution is an annual act of support from the FCT Administration to the Muslim community.
The beneficiaries included Muslim religious groups, associations, and vulnerable individuals within the FCT.
He emphasized that Ramadan is a special time for Muslims globally, and this gesture was intended to show solidarity with Muslims in the FCT.

“The distribution of these rice bags is part of our effort to connect with our Muslim brothers, the needy, and the less privileged who are in genuine need of such assistance,” he stated.
“This action demonstrates the Minister’s connection to the religious community and the value he places on them.”
“This food distribution also reflects the Minister’s compassion for our brothers and sisters, especially the less fortunate, who require support during this season.”
“The Minister is, in his own way, trying to show solidarity with the religious community in the FCT.”
“He is doing this by ensuring that as Muslims fast and pray, they have something to break their fast with,” he added.
FCTA Director of Protocol, Malam Sani Daura, added that other recipients would include FCT graded chiefs, religious leaders, and the FCT Welfare Association.
Daura said Wike approved the distribution, continuing the FCT Administration’s tradition of supporting residents, particularly during festive periods.
He emphasized that this initiative aims to prioritize the welfare of the less privileged.
Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Wike, describing the gesture as “thoughtful.”
Malam Lawal Mustapha, the Chief Imam of the FCT Minister’s residence, said the distribution would alleviate food scarcity among vulnerable families.
He prayed for Wike’s protection throughout his tenure.
Alhaji Abdulrazzaq Suraju, Principal of Abuja School for the Deaf, also thanked the minister for including the school among the beneficiaries.
Suraju said that Wike is positively impacting lives and transforming Abuja.
“Food is expensive, but we are grateful that the FCT Minister has remembered us and is making a difference for the students of the school.”
“I am confident that this Sallah will be a great one for all of us,” Suraju concluded.
