INEC has notified Senate President Godswill Akpabio that the petition to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from Kogi Central has been rejected due to its failure to comply with constitutional requirements.
In a Thursday statement, INEC cited Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution, stating that the petition, submitted on March 24, 2025, did not meet the legal criteria necessary to proceed with a recall.
“The petition has NOT met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended),” the statement read.

INEC rejected the recall petition against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan because it only garnered 208,132 signatures out of 474,554 registered voters in Kogi Central, representing 43.86% of the electorate.
This fell below the constitutional requirement of “at least 50% + 1” of registered voters. Consequently, INEC declared that no further action would be taken, citing its 2024 recall regulations.
A public notice of this decision was issued on April 3, 2025, and sent to key officials, including Senate President Akpabio.
