A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has granted an order restraining the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and five other parties from taking any action against Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The restraining order is connected to a case involving the alleged arson at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The listed defendants are: the Inspector General of Police (1st), Rivers State Commissioner of Police (2nd), the Nigeria Police Force (3rd), Police Service Commission (4th), the Director General of the DSS (5th), Rivers State Director of the DSS (6th), and the State Security Service (7th).

Justice I. Igwe, who issued the order, barred all seven defendants from summoning, questioning, arresting, detaining, or harassing Edison Ehie pending the outcome of the main suit.
“THAT an Order of Interim Injunction be and is hereby issued restraining the Defendants, by themselves or by their agents, servants, assigns, privies, or whosoever, from further inviting or demanding the appearance of the Claimant at their respective offices in Abuja or anywhere else or harassing, intimidating, arresting, or detaining the Claimant in connection with the alleged arson on the hallowed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which occurred on 29th March 2023, on account of the statement made on or about 27th March 2025 or thereafter by Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service of the Government of Rivers State, or on account of any statement made by anyone whosoever or whensoever pending the hearing of motion of notice for interlocutory injunction.”
The Court also instructed all involved parties to maintain the status quo as it was on March 30, 2025, until the Motion on Notice for an Interlocutory Injunction is heard.
In addition, the Court granted permission for the claimant to serve the Writ of Summons and other relevant court documents on the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th defendants through substituted means—specifically, by mailing them via Red Star Express Courier Service to their respective addresses in Abuja, with proof of delivery to be submitted to the Court.
The matter has been adjourned to April 30 for the hearing of the interlocutory injunction motion.
The issue surrounding the alleged arson at the Rivers State House of Assembly has resurfaced following accusations by George Nwaeke, the immediate past Head of Service of the state, who leveled serious allegations against Governor Fubara’s administration.
Nwaeke claimed that Edison Ehie received funds from Governor Fubara to carry out the arson.
However, Fubara, Ehie, and Chijioke Ihunwo—the former Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, who was also mentioned—have all denied the accusations, labeling them as baseless and motivated by Nwaeke’s alleged excessive greed for wealth.
