Presidency Speaks On Alleged Sack Of INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu

The Presidency has refuted widespread reports circulating that President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

These reports, which gained traction early today, Monday, alleged Yakubu’s removal and replacement with a Professor Bashiru Olamilekan as part of a purported “sweeping change” in INEC’s leadership.

Responding to these claims, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Digital and New Media, O’tega Ogra, labeled the news as untrue and urged the public to disregard it.

“Disregard any fake news making the rounds about the replacement of the INEC Chairman,” Ogra stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He stressed that any official decision or announcement regarding such a matter would come directly from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or another recognized official communication channel.

“Any such announcement will come from the SGF’s office or any other official source,” he added.

The widely shared report, which caused considerable discussion on social media, has now been confirmed as misinformation, lacking any official confirmation from the Presidency or any Federal government agency.
