Security forces on Monday used tear gas to disperse women protesting against the emergency rule in Rivers State and demanding the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Approximately 200 women from the Elleye and Engine communities in Ahead East Local Government Area participated in the protest, expressing their opposition to the appointment of a Sole Administrator for the state.
As the women marched and sang in support of Fubara, displaying placards with messages such as “Ibas leave us alone” and “Our democracy is threatened,” security operatives, including the police, attempted to halt their progress.

When the women refused to stop their protest, the operatives fired tear gas to scatter the crowd, causing them to flee in disarray.
A widely circulated video later showed some of the women weeping after inhaling the tear gas, while they continued to insist on Governor Fubara’s return to power.
Some of the women sat on the ground, cursing the police officers and declaring, “No Sim, no Rivers State.”
