“We Don’t Want Fubara” – Protest Rocks Rivers [VIDEO]

The political turmoil in Rivers State has escalated as a coalition of women’s groups took to the streets of Port Harcourt to express their support for the imposed emergency rule in the oil-rich state.

Dressed in white, the women marched from the Garrison Flyover to the Isaac Boro Park, holding placards with messages such as “State of Emergency is Constitutional” and “We Don’t Want Fubara.”

The protest was led by Ifeyinwa Aguma, a former Commissioner for Social Welfare in Rivers State and an ally of the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The demonstrators voiced their support for Ibok-Ette Ibas, the administrator appointed by President Bola Tinubu, and encouraged him to continue his work in the state.

This Monday’s demonstration follows a similar women’s protest last week in support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was suspended by President Tinubu due to the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Last month, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing “security reports” following two pipeline explosions.

This declaration led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

President Tinubu appointed Ibok-Ette Ibas to oversee the state’s affairs while the crisis is being resolved, a decision that has sparked significant division across the nation.

However, on Monday, the women protesters supported the president’s action, deeming it constitutional.

Meanwhile, the governors of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have rejected the declaration and have initiated legal action to challenge its imposition.
