Differences Between Red And Yellow Bananas

Red bananas share similarities with yellow bananas, both being good sources of dietary fiber and rich in calories and carbohydrates.

However, red bananas tend to be smaller and denser than yellow bananas, with a notably sweeter flavor.

Nutritionally, red bananas offer a higher amount of vitamin C and contain greater levels of specific antioxidants.

They also have a lower glycemic index (GI) compared to their yellow counterparts.

Despite their sweeter taste, red bananas have a lower GI score, which indicates how rapidly foods impact blood sugar levels.

A lower GI signifies a slower rate of absorption into the bloodstream. Yellow bananas have an average GI of 51, whereas red bananas have a lower score of approximately 45.

Adhering to a low-GI diet can be beneficial for managing blood sugar levels and potentially reducing cholesterol.
