The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has officially declared Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its new leader, following his switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on Monday.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the state APC Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, stated that Oborevwori’s emergence as the party leader aligns with the APC’s established tradition of a sitting governor assuming the leadership role in their state.
“We wish to categorically state that with his entry into the APC, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori assumes the position of the leader of the Party in Delta State. This position is not subject to debate or contention,” the statement emphasized.

The party highlighted Vice President Kashim Shettima’s remarks during the defection ceremony as confirmation of the governor’s new status, describing them as “authoritative, binding and final.”
The statement further cautioned against any internal opposition, warning that the party would not condone actions aimed at undermining the governor’s leadership.
“Delta APC finds it strange, arrogant and reprehensible for any individual to continue to arrogate or to parade himself as the leader of the Party in Delta State in clear opposition to the present reality,” the statement added. “Anyone who seeks to undermine this position… will face severe sanctions from the party.”
The APC urged all members and stakeholders to support Oborevwori and unite under his leadership, reiterating their commitment to delivering on their promises under his M.O.R.E. agenda.
“Delta APC is solidly behind His Excellency as our leader, and we recognise no other individual in that role,” the party concluded.
This development signifies a major shift in Delta State’s political landscape as the APC moves to consolidate its structure under its new leader.
