Kano Government Takes Strong Action On Aide Over False Claim Of Kwankwaso’s Rejection In APC

The Kano State Government has suspended Ibrahim Rabi’u, a political aide, for issuing an unauthorized statement falsely attributed to Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso concerning his alleged rejection of President Bola Tinubu’s overtures to rejoin the APC.

The suspension, effective Saturday, May 17, 2025, was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, and publicized by Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Rabi’u, a Senior Special Reporter (SSR) in the Ministry of Transportation, was suspended for his “unguarded utterances” and has been issued a formal query.

The government disavowed the viral article, calling it inflammatory and unauthorized, and warned political appointees against making public statements on sensitive political matters without clearance.

Only the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Wayya, and the Director General, Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature, are authorized to speak for the government and governor, respectively.

The statement, falsely attributed to Senator Kwankwaso, claimed he rejected President Tinubu’s attempts to bring him back to the APC, stating he would rather retire from politics.

Ibrahim Rabi’u admitted to authoring and circulating the false article without Kwankwaso’s or his media team’s knowledge, calling it a “personal miscalculation.”

He retracted the statement, apologized, and asked media outlets to remove it.

This incident has occurred amidst political speculation and tension regarding potential realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Senator Kwankwaso had previously refuted the claims and cautioned against misinformation.
