Amidst speculation about a potential opposition alliance to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has stated that his focus is solely on a “coalition against hunger, poverty, and the bad state of healthcare and education” in Nigeria.

He emphasized that he is not driven by personal ambition for any political office.

Obi, who finished third in the 2023 election behind Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, addressed the rumors of a possible coalition with Atiku and other opposition figures to defeat Tinubu in 2027.

He dismissed any suggestion that he would run as a vice presidential candidate, calling such claims “politics of selfish ambitions” that hinder national progress.

During a visit to the Anglican Diocese of Kubwa in Abuja, Obi also made a financial contribution to a school project, acknowledging the church’s role in filling the government’s failure to provide quality basic education.

Regarding his recent interaction with President Tinubu at the Vatican, where they exchanged greetings following the inauguration Mass of Pope Leo XIV, Obi clarified that it was a matter of protocol and not a sign of political alliance.

He stated that he is not Tinubu’s enemy, but rather an opponent of “corruption and corrupt leaders” who have negatively impacted the lives of Nigerians.
