Segun Sowunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed his readiness to collaborate with President Bola Tinubu, stating he would resign from the PDP if such an opportunity arose.

Sowunmi made this declaration on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, following a recent meeting with the President.

He affirmed his willingness to work with President Tinubu despite his previous criticisms of the APC-led administration, saying, “There has never been a doubt that I can work with him. There’s never been a doubt.”

When asked if he would accept an appointment from the President, Sowunmi responded, “I don’t do that type of nonsense. If I am going to work with the president, I’m going to leave the PDP, because I’m wondering completely. I have worked with the president.”

He admitted to previously labeling the current government as “rudderless” and accusing it of “ethnic concentration and lopsidedness.”

Despite these strong past remarks, Sowunmi spoke admiringly of President Tinubu’s mental acuity and decisiveness, describing him as alert and intellectually grounded.

“So the president was mentally and psychologically alert. I’ve known him for a while and I know how he thinks,” he commented.

He recounted a previous encounter where Tinubu appeared open-minded and direct, even asking if he desired an appointment.

Sowunmi noted that his only prior government appointment was under Otunba Gbenga Daniel, attributing his directness to his aversion to sycophancy in meetings.
