In a time of increasing political alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), former Senate Leader Senator Ali Ndume has threatened to leave the party if President Bola Tinubu does not effectively address Nigeria’s critical challenges.

Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, admitted that he has participated in meetings with opposition leaders who are forming a coalition to unseat the President in the 2027 elections.

Despite his concerns, the outspoken lawmaker remains optimistic that President Tinubu can improve the country’s situation.

However, he warned that the APC-led administration’s continued failure could force him to abandon the party and join the opposition.

“I am aware of the opposition coalition and have attended some of their meetings. I still believe the president can fix things, but if he fails, I may have to move. An overloaded ship will sink,” Ndume stated.

Commenting on the recent defections to the APC, he argued that most are driven by political survival tactics, not genuine commitment.

“They are joining not because of principles but because of indirect stick-and-carrot politics, and that is dangerous,” he warned.

Ndume cautioned that if the APC continues on its current path, it risks collapse, regardless of who joins.

He echoed the President’s own words, stating, “As the President said, there’s a vacancy in the ship, but if you overload it, the ship will capsize, and everyone will go down with it.”

Senator Ndume concluded by saying that his allegiance to the APC is conditional on President Tinubu delivering on his electoral promises, not on political rhetoric or propaganda.
