Peter Obi, a 2027 presidential aspirant and the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, who is also a notable member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led opposition coalition, expressed confidence during a ‘Sunday Politics’ program that the northern region of Nigeria would celebrate him if he became president.
He asserted that the 19 northern states hold Nigeria’s greatest asset, possessing both significant voter strength and vast arable land.
However, Obi lamented that this immense potential remains largely untapped due to the pervasive challenge of insecurity.

Obi said, “We have voted for incompetence, we’ve voted for tribe, (and) we’ve voted for religion; let’s vote for competence.
“I want them to trust me. The biggest asset of this country is in the north, the uncultivated lands in the north. The criminality we face in the north today, I will deal with it.
“If I am president, the North will celebrate me. I have an idea of the problem.”
