Former Lagos Deputy Governor Demands Cancellation Of LG Election

Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has alleged significant irregularities in the ongoing local government elections in the state and is calling for the cancellation of the exercise.

In an interview with Nigeria Info on Saturday, Bucknor-Akerele expressed her frustration after being unable to vote at her designated polling unit because her name was missing.

She also highlighted that several polling units had been relocated without prior notice, giving an example of units supposedly near Eko Hotel being moved to Ajose Adeogun.

The former deputy governor claimed that these issues—relocated polling units and missing names—are part of a “clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party.” She asserted that “many people are not able to vote because they have completely disrupted all the polling units.”

Citing widespread disenfranchisement and logistical failures, Bucknor-Akerele urged the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to cancel the election.
