Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has officially approved the appointment of former Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council for the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina.
The appointment, which is for an initial four-year term, became effective in October 2025, according to a statement issued by Ibrahim Almu-Gafai, the Director of Press for the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
Mr. Almu-Gafai quoted the SSG, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba-Faskari, who indicated that Sirika’s appointment was based on the recognition of his “outstanding qualities and performance exhibited over the years.”

The Governor urged the appointee to “bring his vast experience to bear in his new assignment.”
Sirika, an aviator and politician born on March 2, 1964, in Dubawa, is the new District Head of Shargalle, holding the title of ‘Marusan Katsina’.
His educational background includes attending prestigious institutions such as the Petroleum Helicopter Institute, Flight Safety International, and Delta Aeronautics in the United States, and he holds a Master of Science Degree in Aviation Management.
His political career includes serving as a Member of the House of Representatives for Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency (2003–2007) and as a Senator representing Katsina North (2011–2015).
He was later appointed Minister of Aviation from 2019 to 2023 under the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
SSG Garba-Faskari concluded by saying, “The governor congratulates Sen. Sirika on his well-deserved appointment, and wish him Allah’s guidance in the discharge of his duties as Chairman of the Governing Council, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) Katsina.”
