Senator Godiya Akwashiki, the representative of the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, has passed away at the age of 52.
The news was confirmed by a family source, who stated that the lawmaker died on Wednesday at a hospital in India.
Akwashiki had been battling a severe illness for an extended period before being transported overseas for specialized medical attention.

In a heartfelt tribute, the family described his passing as “a great loss to Nasarawa State, the entire Eggon nation and the country as a whole”.
Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Akwashiki rose through the ranks of Nasarawa politics:

2011–2019: Served in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (PDP), holding positions as Majority Leader and later Deputy Speaker.

2019: Elected to the Senate under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

2023: Secured re-election to the Red Chamber on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
During his time in the National Assembly, he chaired the Senate Committee on Air Force and previously led the Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs.
Akwashiki was an alumnus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where he obtained a degree in Business Administration in 2010. His earlier education was completed at Government Technical College, Assakio, and Government Primary School, Angba Iggah.
The late senator is survived by his wife and children.
