The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) has endorsed Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, as the “consensus governorship aspirant” for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in preparation for the 2027 polls.
Tajudeen Olusi, the GAC chairman, announced the decision on Tuesday following a leadership meeting at Lagos House, Marina, confirming that all 21 members present “agreed to support Hamzat” as the party’s choice for the upcoming election.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu revealed that the council members have committed to personally funding the Deputy Governor’s entry into the race.

While addressing the press, Sanwo-Olu stated, “I have some additional information: all of my leaders and fathers present here have taxed themselves to fund the nomination form, regardless of the cost, for the Deputy, who is our consensus candidate.”
The Governor further highlighted the personal commitment of the council members, noting that “They have all levied themselves—even drawing from their savings as retirees—to ensure they are the ones who purchase his nomination form.” He added that “We felt it was important to mention this contribution.”
Additionally, Sanwo-Olu mentioned that the state also secured the presidential interest form for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Established by President Bola Tinubu in 1999, the GAC is the “highest decision-making body” of the APC in Lagos and is “saddled with influencing succession plans, key government appointments, and zoning of positions.”
Hamzat has occupied the role of deputy governor since 2023.
