Video Of Massive Solar Panels Installed At Aso Rock Presidential Villa In Abuja Surfaces Online, Sparks Reactions [VIDEO]

This video surfaced online as Nigerians battle poor and unreliable power supply.

The Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja is transitioning to a comprehensive solar mini-grid system as part of a strategic move to exit the national electricity grid and reduce staggering energy costs.

Completed in late 2025 with an initial budget of N10 billion, the project underwent performance testing through early 2026 and was slated for a full cutover by March 2026.

This “solarisation” effort, which received an additional N7 billion allocation in the 2026 budget, aims to replace aging diesel generators and eliminate an annual electricity bill estimated at N47 billion.

While the State House Medical Centre has already proven the system’s viability by running almost entirely on solar since May 2025, the project has drawn public criticism as a “Villa-first” privilege, with citizens noting the contrast between the presidency’s energy independence and the persistent grid collapses affecting the rest of Nigeria.
