What Will Happen To Policeman Who Killed Suspect In Viral Video — Police

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that ASP Nuhu Usman, the officer filmed fatally shooting a suspect in Effurun, will face trial for murder.

During a Wednesday appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, revealed that the officer has been transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary proceedings.

Edafe condemned the officer’s unprofessional conduct, suggesting that the violent act was so inexplicable it could only be viewed “from a spiritual perspective.”

Addressing questions about why the officer’s face was obscured in the official arrest announcement, Edafe maintained that the decision was “the professional thing to do.”

The incident, which resulted in the death of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi, has caused significant public anger across social media platforms since the footage went viral.

The police provided context for the encounter, stating it took place on April 26, 2026, after Area Command Effurun received reports that the deceased had been caught attempting to transport “a Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition.”

However, the command clarified that the use of lethal force was entirely unauthorized.

Specifically, the statement noted that “the police officer leading the team, ASP Nuhu Usman, in clear violation of Force Order 237 and the Standard Operating Procedure of the Nigeria Police Force, discharged his firearm, leading to the death of the suspect.”
