Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central, has officially switched from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing persistent leadership conflicts and constant legal battles within his previous party.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the move on Tuesday during plenary after presenting Umeh’s formal letter of resignation and defection.
In his correspondence, Umeh explained that his choice followed extensive talks with his family, his people, and his supporters.
He wrote, “I welcome you and the entire Senate through this medium of my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and my defection to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).”

He further clarified that his departure was due to “lingering divisions in the leadership and unending litigation in the African Democratic Congress,” noting that these internal crises made staying in the party nearly impossible.
The letter continued, “I have taken this decision after wide consultations with my family, my constituents and supporters in view of the lingering divisions in the leadership and unending litigation in the African Democratic Congress.”
Despite the move, Umeh maintained that he is dedicated to the country’s progress, stating, “I remain committed to making my contributions towards the development of our dear nation, but this time through the NDC. Please accept the assurances of my highest regards. Yours faithfully.”
Following the announcement, the Senate President offered a brief word of congratulations to the lawmaker.
