Why Akpabio Should Resign As Senate President – Oshiomhole [VIDEO]

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, demanded the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday, further intensifying the conflict surrounding the recent changes to the Senate Standing Orders.

These amendments specifically target the election criteria for presiding and principal officers in the upper chamber.

While addressing reporters in Abuja, Oshiomhole characterized the revised rules as being born from a “moral crisis.”

He contended that both the implementation and the substance of these changes provoke serious concerns regarding fairness, eligibility, and the ethical standards of Senate leadership.

He further asserted that under the current framework being discussed, Akpabio fails to meet the necessary moral and procedural requirements to remain in his leadership role.

Oshiomhole compared the situation to previous leadership structures, specifically citing former Senate President David Mark, as he cautioned against manipulating regulations for political gain after having already benefited from them.

This demand for Akpabio’s resignation follows days of intense arguments on the Senate floor regarding the controversial updates to the Standing Orders.
