President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The announcement was made public by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

Professor Aina will officially take over from the current Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term in office is set to conclude on July 31, 2026.

  • Began His JAMB Association During NYSC: According to the presidency, Aina’s history with JAMB trace back to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, where he first picked up foundational knowledge in data management frameworks and national admissions procedures. This early introduction is noted for shaping his subsequent professional focus on structural optimization and examination development.

  • A Veteran Consultant for National Exam Bodies: Accumulating over 15 years of post-graduate practice, Aina has frequently served as a technical consultant for top-tier testing entities, such as the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and various state ministries of education. His professional scope centers heavily on examination transparency, ICT architecture, digital adaptation, and operational repositioning.

  • Respected Scholar in Computer Engineering: He currently operates as a Professor of Computer Engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, where he has built a strong reputation for his insight into technological setups, digital infrastructure, and institutional transformation.

  • Educated and Trained in the United Kingdom: His academic journey includes earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, followed by both a Master of Science in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. Additionally, he is an alumnus of the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

  • Record-Breaking Appointment as the Youngest JAMB Registrar: Celebrating his 40th birthday this July, Aina is on track to set a new milestone as the youngest individual to lead JAMB as Registrar. He had similarly earned distinction earlier in his career as one of the youngest professors of Computer Engineering in Nigeria. He maintains active affiliations with several professional networks, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
