Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi took part in the nationwide African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election on Monday.
Amaechi cast his vote at Ward 5 in Ubima, located in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, in the company of party members and loyalists.
Earlier that day, Atiku voted at the Ajiya Ward in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State, as the ADC utilized a direct primary system across the country to choose its flagbearer for the 2027 presidential race.
The voting process, happening across all 8,809 wards in Nigeria, utilized the Option A4 system, where verified party members lined up openly behind the candidate of their choice.

Amaechi, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State, was spotted on line with other voters in Ubima as the process kicked off.
The battle for the ADC presidential ticket is a three-way race cleared by the party’s National Working Committee, which is headed by former Senate President David Mark.
The three contenders vying for the ticket are Atiku, Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, an economist who previously sought the PDP presidential nomination.
After voting, Atiku shared his thoughts on X, stating:“I joined other prospective voters of the African Democratic Congress in our party’s presidential primaries in casting my vote at the Ajiya Ward Polling Unit in Jimeta Yola, Adamawa State.
“This is democracy at work. The election taking place simultaneously in 8,809 wards in Nigeria is a major step in our quest to recover our beloved country and set it on the path of prosperity.”
In addition to choosing a presidential candidate, the ADC is concurrently running primary elections for governorship, Senate, and House of Representatives seats in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
