Human rights activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has openly confronted leadership figures within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)—notably National Secretary Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu and members of the party’s National Executive Committee—concerning the management of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial ticket.
The intense confrontation reportedly broke out after the party opted to deny Yesufu the FCT senatorial slot, with party chiefs reportedly pointing to her late admission into the NDC as the primary reason for the decision.
In a trending video that hit the internet on Wednesday, a furious Yesufu lambasted the party’s hierarchy for allegedly breaking promises made about how the selection process would run.
She took aim directly at the National Secretary, asserting that he “should not have publicly made promises he could not fulfil.”
The prominent activist, widely recognized for her leading roles in democratic advocacy and the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, voiced deep irritation over what she called unjust treatment from inside her own political camp.
She emphasized that despite facing intense public scrutiny and personal attacks, she stayed loyal to the party and would have gladly conceded “if the process had been transparent and credible.”
Yesufu also made it clear that she held back from speaking out earlier on the matter solely “because of her commitment to the party’s presidential project.”
The internal clash has ignited widespread debate among political analysts and party faithful alike, prompting serious scrutiny over the integrity of the NDC’s internal operations as they gear up for the 2027 general elections.
