Nigeria Police Appoints New Force Public Relations Officer

🔊 Listen To Post

The Nigeria Police Force has officially announced a leadership change in its public relations department, naming Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Iniedu Okokon as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

Mr. Okokon steps into the role, replacing Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid, who had served as the police spokesperson for only three months. Mr. Placid’s tenure began shortly after the 23rd Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, took office.

When reached for comment, Mr. Placid confirmed his replacement in a “terse text response,” though the police have yet to provide official details regarding the reasoning behind the sudden leadership reshuffle.

According to insiders at the police headquarters, Mr. Placid has been redeployed to lead the Finance and Administration unit of the Lagos Command. This position became vacant following the recent death of the former head, DCP Khan Salihu, who passed away after a brief illness.

Mr. Okokon, who previously served as the head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), is set to assume his new duties immediately. He will oversee public communication, while the newly established Force New Media unit remains under the supervision of CSP Aliyu Giwa.

While the change is effective immediately, the public and media outlets await further official clarification from police authorities regarding the transition.
