Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has vowed that his ‘Iru Ekun’ Security Network will persist in its operations against suspected kidnappers and armed criminal groups in the South-west, despite a recent violent ambush that left several of his operatives injured.
The confrontation occurred days ago during a surveillance operation within the Old Oyo National Park—a remote area increasingly linked to kidnapping activities.
Despite the attack, Igboho remains defiant, stating that his team will not abandon their mission to secure the region.
“I want to use this moment to tell my lovers everywhere that I am healthy. Those injured have healed and are healthy now,” he said.
“Until those kidnappers that are disturbing people on our land all leave, that is when we will rest. I assure you.”
An operative who participated in the mission detailed how the team encountered suspects deep within the forest near the Igbeti axis.
The situation quickly escalated into a gun battle when the suspects opened fire, resulting in one team member sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the leg. ,
Police officers attached to the mission provided immediate first aid before the injured were evacuated.
This incident has amplified ongoing security concerns across Oyo State, particularly following the tragic abduction of over 40 schoolchildren and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area on May 15.
The situation remains volatile, especially after the reported beheading of a teacher, Michael Oyedokun, while in captivity.
Igboho, who rose to prominence in 2021 for his activism regarding regional security, launched the ‘Iru Ekun’ group in May.
He stated that the network aims to flush out terrorists and criminals across forests in the South-west, as well as Yoruba-speaking areas of Kogi and Kwara states.
Regarding his motivation to continue these operations, Igboho noted, “A Yoruba man is the president and that is the privilege I am enjoying now. Will I now watch and see things get bad after getting my freedom? What we can do as contribution is to go into the forests and fish out the terrorists, even if you are Yoruba.”
He further cautioned his team members to maintain strict discipline and professional conduct while carrying out their duties in the forests.
