Seriake Dickson, the leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has confirmed that his party is open to exploring potential coalitions with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the 2027 general elections approach.

Mr. Dickson, who currently represents the Bayelsa West District in the Senate, shared these insights during a recent appearance on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics.

Despite the NDC being established only five months ago, the national leader asserted that the party has rapidly ascended to become Nigeria’s leading opposition force.

When questioned by programme anchor Seun Okinbaloye about a potential alliance with prominent figures in the ADC—specifically mentioning Atiku Abubakar, who is identified as the ADC’s 2027 presidential candidate—Mr. Dickson emphasized a willingness to engage in political dialogue.

“As an opposition leader, we will be open to coalition discussions. Our party, the NDC, will be open to conversations within that space,” Mr. Dickson stated.

He added, “After the nomination processes have ended, we’ll get to another phase of discussion (for coalition). Whether we’ll agree, I don’t know. I will try. Where it will lead to, I don’t know. But those are options that are open.”

However, the national leader placed a clear condition on any such partnership, noting that any coalition must respect the integrity of the NDC’s internal processes.

“We hope that whatever discussions take place will lead to the NDC candidates being backed because we know the value of the candidates we are putting forward. We are not claiming superiority,” he clarified.
