The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially launched the recruitment process for ad hoc personnel to support the upcoming Osun State governorship election, scheduled for August 15, 2026.
Qualified Nigerians are invited to submit applications for various election-day duties through the commission’s dedicated portal, INECPRES.
The recruitment drive, which began on June 27, covers several essential roles, including Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, Registration Area Technical Support staff, and Registration Area Centre managers.
The commission has set a strict deadline for applications, which will automatically close at midnight on July 18, 2026.
Eligibility for these positions varies based on the role. For Supervisory Presiding Officers, the commission is seeking public and civil servants on Grade Levels 12 to 14, with priority given to personnel from the National Youth Service Corps, National Orientation Agency, National Identity Management Commission, and National Population Commission. Eligible INEC staff on Grade Levels 8 to 14 who are not otherwise assigned to election duties may also apply.
Opportunities for Presiding Officer and Assistant Presiding Officer roles are open to serving corps members, former corps members who completed their service between 2024 and 2026, and penultimate-year students of federal tertiary institutions.
Additionally, permanent federal Ministry, Department, and Agency (MDA) staff on Grade Levels 7 to 10 who possess an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or National Certificate in Education (NCE) are eligible.
Registration Area Centre managers will be selected from the leadership or staff of institutions designated as centres, while technical support staff will be drawn from qualified internal ICT personnel.
INEC has issued a stern warning regarding the political neutrality of its staff. The commission explicitly stated that applicants must not be members of any political party, nor have they publicly demonstrated or expressed support for any political party or candidate.
Interested individuals are encouraged to complete their registration via the INECPRES portal before the July 18 deadline, as the commission will not accept late submissions.
