The Abia State Police Command has arrested a barber in Umuahia, identified simply as Emeka, over allegations that he collected and kept customers’ hair for suspected ritual purposes.
The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday after his neighbour, Mr. Johnson Ikenga, lodged a formal complaint with the police alleging that Emeka had threatened him.
Following the report, officers moved in to arrest the suspect and searched his one-room apartment. During the search, police allegedly discovered a clay pot containing human hair alongside various items suspected to be fetish objects.
During initial interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted that the clay pot belonged to him.
However, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for how he came into possession of the human hair or what the items were being used for.
The disturbing discovery has sparked widespread concern and anxiety among residents in the area, with many expressing fears that the hair may have been secretly harvested from unsuspecting customers who patronized the shop for regular haircuts.
The suspect has since been transferred to the Central Police Station (CPS) in Umuahia, where detectives have commenced further investigations into the matter.
As of the time of filing this report, the Abia State Police Command had yet to release an official statement, though authorities are expected to provide updates as investigations progress.
