Festus Keyamo

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Tinubu will easily secure a second term, describing the upcoming 2027 presidential contest as “a coronation, not an election.”

Keyamo made this assertion on Thursday while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, where he defended the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration and brushed off the strength of the opposition.

Asked whether he could confidently urge Nigerians to vote for the APC again, the minister pointed to the party’s recent electoral victories:“We have won in Ekiti now. We told them to vote, they voted. FCT they voted, we won.”

When the interviewer noted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi would be on the ballot in 2027, Keyamo insisted he was not worried about their chances:

“I’m looking around, between you and me, where will Obi’s votes come from? I can’t see it.”

Asked whether Atiku posed a threat to the ruling party, Keyamo responded dismissively:“Which Atiku? Nightmare who?”

Concluding his appearance, the minister emphasized that his projection was rooted strictly in demographic calculations rather than overconfidence:“I want to make a profound statement as a closing statement. Not out of arrogance, not out of overconfidence, but out of pure demographic calculations: the 2027 election is a coronation, not an election. I repeat—don’t take me out of context—out of pure demographic calculations, it’s a coronation.”

President Tinubu is anticipated to seek re-election on the APC platform alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 election, facing a competitive multi-party contest.
