The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports of a fresh disagreement between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly over the delay in the passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The administration characterized the claims as untrue and deceptive, noting that the financial proposal is progressing through standard legislative procedures.
Through a press release published on Wednesday by Onwuka Nzeshi, who serves as the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, authorities maintained that Fubara maintains a collaborative relationship with the legislators for the benefit of the state.
“We wish to make it abundantly clear that His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is not at loggerheads with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, but rather working closely with them to serve the good people of Rivers State,” Nzeshi said.
He clarified that the 2026 spending blueprint was previously submitted to the assembly and currently undergoes formal parliamentary review.
“The 2026 budget proposal has been presented to the House of Assembly; it is going through the normal legislative process and we strongly believe that once the process is completed, it will be passed by the lawmakers,” he said.
Nzeshi noted that the region has navigated turbulent periods previously and intends to avoid entering another cycle of political friction.
“We therefore advise all those bent on promoting negative narratives to desist from such actions forthwith, as we need peace and harmony to ensure steady development of Rivers State,” he added.
This statement addresses recent political movements in the territory alongside heightened scrutiny regarding ties between the executive and legislative branches.
Prior expectations suggested the fiscal plan would experience a seamless approval process following Fubara’s alignment shift back toward the political faction linked to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
