Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has opened up on the reasons behind her decision to turn down a House of Representatives ticket that was extended to her under the banner of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Speaking during an exclusive interview session on Symfoni TV, the outspoken activist explained that her choice to turn down the proposition stemmed purely from matters of principle, noting that several political proposals came attached with specific preconditions she was unwilling to compromise on.
She further stressed that pursuing leadership positions should never be approached by force, emphasizing that her personal integrity remains entirely non-negotiable regardless of the position at stake.
“I did not accept the House of Representatives ticket that was given to me because there were other people who were doing it on the issue of principle. There were many issues where many people brought ‘I will make you this but you have to do A, B, C, D. It’s pretty obvious,” she remarked.
“We are not going to sell Nigeria. I don’t have to be president by force. We won’t make any promises that we will not fulfill,” she added.
This development follows earlier confirmations by the national leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, who revealed that both he and the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had formally extended the legislative offer to her before she ultimately chose to walk away from it.
