President Bola Tinubu has issued an urgent rescue directive for major federal transportation corridors, focusing squarely on the failing infrastructure of the Benin-Agbor-Asaba route alongside the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti highway connecting Ekiti and Kogi states.

A public announcement released on Tuesday by Francis Nwaze, who serves as the media aide to Works Minister David Umahi, revealed that the minister’s office is deeply troubled by the catastrophic state of the pavement and the immense hardship faced by motorists who find themselves stranded for hours or even days.

Quoting the president directly, Nwaze noted that the administration has instructed the Federal Ministry of Works to step in without delay to implement emergency corrective measures that will restore traffic flow across the broken corridors as swiftly as possible.

In direct response to this presidential directive, Minister Umahi mobilized field resources instantly, dispatching the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, alongside a technical delegation to the Ekiti-Kogi section to launch urgent stabilization work that kicked off promptly by mid-morning.

Concurrently, Minister Umahi traveled personally to Edo State accompanied by leadership figures from the National Assembly Committees on Works to spearhead a parallel multi-agency rescue operation for the Benin-Agbor-Asaba corridor.

This strategic meeting in Benin aims to unite critical regional players, including delegates from the Delta and Edo state governments as well as the Niger Delta Development Commission, to map out immediate solutions for travelers navigating the paralyzed highway.

During these briefings, Nwaze conveyed an official apology from Minister Umahi to all commuters enduring prolonged delays, explicitly taking institutional responsibility for the current state of distress on these vital inter-state routes.

Furthermore, the federal authorities promised that current efforts go far beyond superficial patching, outlining a dual strategy that combines immediate emergency clearance with durable long-term structural repairs to permanently secure the lifespan and safety of these roads.
